I recently bought this lens as I usually have the 60mm macro attached to the E-M1 II. I enjoy using the E-M1 with the macro, but occasionly when out in the bush I might see a bird or animal I'd like to try a get a photo of and the macro is a tad short.

A few snapshots from this morning using the 100-400mm at 400mm

Obviously you folk are producing excellent images with this lens. How do you find the handling? I have a G80, and would like to get a telephoto lens with better IQ than the 75-300 II, but I've never owned or even used a lens the size and weight of the 100-400.

Tony, I have both the 75-300II & the PL100-400. I have a Gx85 as well as Gx8's. The bigger lens works well on both bodies but it "feels funny" on the smaller camera and well as has balance problems (I hang the lens from a Blackrapid strap). However the 75-300 & Gx85 are a very good little combination especially with the really good BIS of the gx85....

Thanks for the info, Jeff. I don't earn money with my images, which is one thing that has me hesitating about getting the 100-400, but the image samples I've seen from it here and on Flickr are very good.

I think I'm going to rent one and see how I feel about the handling.

You can find them for ~$1000 on ebay. I got one on the way. Despite the noted stiff focus/tight mount issue with some of them, I don't think I've ever seen one on the Buy/Sell here, which might be a good sign as a keeper?

I took the Olympus E-M1 II with the Panasonic 100-400mm out for a spin at one of the local reserves this morning.

First time out using the 100-400 for one of it's intended purposes. This whole auto focus thing is going to take some getting used to.

Finally got this lens after 10 days of waiting (seller chose Ground instead of Priority mail ). No issues with stiff zoom. Impressed with the IQ and stability so far. Even photos taken indoors would be usable, not that I bought it for that. Sorry no wildlife or birds. Just testing it out. Weather has been crap.

Finally got a chance to take this out today. Subject matter is pretty mundane, but I like this lens a lot. First pairing with the G9 today, so I have a lot to learn about both.

My copy just arrived and I am already sure this is going to be a favorite. A quick shot off the deck near sunset:
