Only recently moved over to m4/3 and mirrorless after more years than i can remember using optical view finders,i am using these settings.
Birds in Flight Settings for Lumix Cameras

Its different :D to say the least, one thing that i know will help is when i get my longer lens but if any one has any tips for mirrorless BIF specifically i would appreciate hearing them.
One thing that did surprise me was how well the GX8 locks and holds focus be it a cluttered or clear background, ime doing a lot of practice shooting not to gain keepers but to gain knowledge of what the system likes and dislikes, some examples of how well it works even with me at the controls.

No, did couldn't have shot those with a mirrorless camera. Everybody know mirrorless can't do BIF!

Great shots though. What lens are you currently using to shoot those with? Within m43, for native AF lenses our options are somewhat limited. The 45-175 PZ is a nice lens, but it's not all that fast to generate very much subject isolation, and 175mm may not be enough reach. There's the 40-150 PRO with the 1.4x TC which takes you out to 210 f/4, which isn't bad. There's also the new PanaLeica 100-400 and Olympus 300/4 PRO.

Users of an E-M1 (like myself) are a bit more spoiled because they can use 4/3 lenses, including options like the excellent 50-200, 150/2, or 300/2.8.

Thanks Ian,at the moment ime using the 45-175pz.i have had on order a 100-400 for nearly 3 months, with my nikon i was using a 150-600 so as you can see i feel ime a bit short on focal length at the moment.

OK. The 45-175 PZ is really a great little lens. Very sharp, compact, and light weight. Hopefully you get your 100-400 soon, as the reviews I've seen have been very positive.

GX8 is great for BID, Leica 100-400ii even better. That lens out resolves the GX8's senso IMHO.
If you're ever bored this album dedicated to that lens has a couple of BIF shots, all with the GX8:

I do hope the GH5 has a hybrid sensor array PDAF/CDAF, fingers crossed.
