I don't need a GX1 now, but it's such a great way for someone to get in the format at this price.

I'm tempted to buy one now to give as a present later on in the year...

It's a decent camera, nice handle, hacked one is great HDV tools, specially coupled with X powerzoom.
Just bought one, 199$ price is just great.

I'm glad. I can't stand these near giveaway prices on respected gear that I have no use for, but find tempting nonetheless.

Not great enough - I got a mint used G5 with about 1000 shutter fires for $289 all in instead. I felt that the built in EVF is well worth the additional bucks.

WTH? I see no 199 deal, so take down the advert note?

That WAS a great deal on the G5! I wouldn't use it as too much of a "benchmark" though as they are rarely that inexpensive.

$50 plus or minus is not enough to keep me away from a camera when they fall down this cheap and are this good. I really am loving my GX1 so far especially for video hacked with ptool.

No hack for the G5 yet because there's been no firmware update yet. Vitaly needs a firmware .bin file for his tool to work.

Actually, now that brand new G5s with the kit lens are selling for $398 all in, the range for used G5 bodies has now moved to under $300 - there are two or three posted in the Buy/Sell section that are going for similar prices to what I paid for mine. We are seeing fire sales on all the bodies that are being replaced now - and the G5 is in the same boat as the GX1 in that regard, as is the Oly EP-3.

Well, since that makes a great camera more accessible to more people, I am happy to be wrong about it, lol.

I mentioned elsewhere that I loaned my G5 to a friend to shoot his daughter's wedding and he liked it so much he ordered one at the new price from B&H.

    Great Deal!

This is a nice price if you are looking to carry around a second camera with a zoom lens or something like that.
