The Panasonic GH1, up until now sold only in an expensive kit with the Lumix 14-140mm lens, will be made available as body only beginning this month. This is good news for videographers who have a preference for using adapted manual focus lenses, as the GH1 is arguably the most video capable Micro Four Thirds camera yet.

For those not interested in video, the G1 will likely remain a better value, although the multi-aspect ratio sensor of the GH1 is an advantage, particularly for 16:9 aspect photography.

Meanwhile, the price of the GH1 kit with 14-140mm lens has substantially dropped recently, from an earlier price of $1500 to a current price of $1250.

It's about time. That lens is far too expensive.
it depends on what angle you're looking at. I don't think any other camera can AF like the GH1 while shooting video with that lens. If you don't need that, then yes, it's quite expensive.

Say the body is worth $700, lens at $800. Canon's own 18-200 is $600, it's not THAT bad. Just bad, heh.

Anyway, good to see them decouple the kit. Maybe offer up a 20/1.7 kit. I still go by the size of the GF1, but not everyone is crazy like me, the GH1 is pretty small on it's own.
