I was hoping Olympus would match pricing on the E-M1 II & 12-40mm since most of my gear is Olympus, but based on the early BF pricing on Olympus’ site, it’s looking like the G9 with PL 12-60 will be $700 less this holiday season, which makes it a no-brainer.

When I was at my local camera store a couple weeks ago the Olympus rep was there and said for Black Friday the E-M1 II would be $1,200. At the same time the Panasonic rep was there and they were selling the G9 for $1,000 (okay $999.99) with two free batteries.

B&H has the same deal. No taxes outside NY.

Are you sure about that?

From their website. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/find/HelpCenter/helpcenter.jsp :
Will B&H collect any sales tax on my order?

If your order is shipping to an address in a state which either requires us to collect sales tax, or is being picked up in our Manhattan SuperStore, local sales tax will be automatically assessed unless the account is registered as tax-exempt. In some cases, we may provide an estimated sales tax amount until your exact location is finalized prior to order completion.

In addition, we are legally required to report certain purchases to local taxation departments in Puerto Rico. If you reside in this area, please check with your local government to see if your purchases are subject to a use tax.

Also this article from 2018 says they collect sales tax in 22 states: https://www.androidpolice.com/2018/12/01/bh-photo-now-charges-sales-tax-in-22-us-states/

Thanks for the info. I’d prefer the E-M1 II based on my familiarity with the Olympus interface, but the G9’s lower price and new video features will probably win me over. There are quite a few interesting cameras at the $1000 price point this BF (D750, G9, X-H1, RP).

Maybe it’s not just limited to NY. I’ve never had sales tax collected for me though. Amazon often collects. You can always check before you buy, but B&H is a good store with great customer service.

They started collecting tax for a lot of states many months ago (and thus the reason for this new payment method). You can check your state at the link above (or apply for the Payboo CC and get the tax rebated). Tax is collected for my state and I'm not in NY.

Damn. I want the E-M5mk3 based on size. But this is a seemingly awesome price for this camera.
