The panasonic 12.5mm 3d lens is also $49 at BH and Adorama.

Looks like there's a manufacturer's rebate on both of these. I wonder if that means Panasonic is phasing them out and trying to sell off the remaining inventory, with the 45-175 replacing the 45-200 in their lineup and nothing replacing the 3D lens.

I would surmise you are correct on both accounts - I don't see the point of bothering with the 3d lens even at $50! Way way way too specialized for most. The 45-200 is a great deal and will easily retain the $200 value (or increase) if inventory is being sold off and the lens ends up discontinued. Just like the original 14-45mm kit lens, if it is discontinued, it is being replaced by what appears to be an inferior offering.

anyone who doesn;t own the 45-200 and is within driving distance should get this one.

what did you want to use the 100-300 for? it might be worth a try at the price (online $199, even better if you can get the samy's deal).

they are wildly different lenses. the 200 end is a touch towards the long end....not unusable by any means. I couldn't do without the 45-200 though because it's a much more versatile range 90-400mm equivalent RULES!).

At that price you just HAVE to grab it. But when I want to shoot long (which isn't as often), I use the 100-300. The big gun is basically my going to the zoo or the ballpark lens. It's also around 4x times this special blow-out price.

I have an high expectation for my photography and tend not to skimp om lens quality. The price is very alluring, with zooms I typically shoot all the racked out or all the way racked in.

If I pick one up from Samy's ... you want one too?

I have one already, but that price is so crazy I should get a second. But I'll restrain myself. Thanks for the offer.

I'd also like to apologize in advance for the way the Brewers are going to mistreat your Dodgers tonight.

Oh, you mean my Nine an' one Dodgers ... who have a bit of Magic this year ... those Dodgers?

Billingsley should make cream-cheese out of Millwalkey, Millwalkie, Millwaakey ... however you spell Milwaukee, them. Looks like you guys are already in a slump and the season's just starting. Hopefully the mercy rule won't be invoked and the game goes the full nine.

    Cheers,
    Gary

Thanks Warren, ... btw just got off the phone with the Samy's Online people, they are out of stock and the brick and motar guys work differently ... they don't seem willing to honor the online pricing even though both divisions use the same warehouse.

    Kinda weird.

I called too and the lowest price I got was $200. This was after me informing them of the instant rebate....
