    I was wondering if anyone owned this lens, I noticed it on sale from $499 to $199 and I am wondering if its worth purchasing; it would be nice to use this with my macro lens I purchased. Anyone have any issues with this lens, I am going to be using the Panasonic Lumix G7; anyone have photos I can see and opinions?

    It's a pretty decent lens - much the same as the newer 45-150mm where they overlap and just a little softer at the top end. The main disadvantage is that it's heavier than more recent lenses (although I found that makes it a bit easier to hold steady, which is handy at the long end).

    I've used all 45-200, 45-150, Oly 40-150 and the 40-150 pro
    for the money, you may consider the Pana 45-175, which I haven't had but heard good reviews about, only concern is the shutter shock.

    the 45-200 has more CA and gets soft when zoomed in, but it's overall not a bad lens;
    the 45-150 is quite sharp and has little CA, aperture shrinks quite fast in the zoom range unlike the 45-200;
    the Oly 40-150 is cheap too but sharper than the 45-200 at the long end.

    I've had this lens for a long time now. As others have said, it's softer than the best lenses, especially above 150mm.

    I think it's a very flattering portrait lens. If you must have very shallow depth of field it won't work, but otherwise it's fine. It has a very nice bokeh but won't turn your background into a mass of soft blurry color. In other words, you have to pay attention the the background.

    Here's some shots from my gallery that I've posted in various threads here.

    Thanks everyone, I ordered it and it should be here after Christmas; I want to try it out with my Raynox 250 Super Macro Snap-On Lens. If I don't like it I can always return it! ;)

    I've had mine for 4 years and I've no plans to sell it yet, though it may become redundant when I eventually buy the 100-300.

    Maybe I had a bad copy, but it is the worst lens I've ever used! - soft and lacking contrast. OP - I hope yours turns out to be good 'un!

    Either I'm lucky and have an OK copy or I'm not so fussy. My EF-S 55-250mm is optically better, but a couple of my other Canon lenses are dreadful in comparison.

    I've owned the O45-150 / P45-175 / P45-200 / O75-300 / P100-300. I found the 45-175 and 45-200 the best combination of size, weight, and range. Yes, technically, the 45-200 might have the worst image quality; but I still enjoyed using it.

    Advantages 45-175
    Smaller / Lighter
    Doesn't extend when zooming
    Power zoom (an advantage for video. I'm generally not a fan of them, but this one isn't bad)

    Advantages 45-200
    Manual zoom
    Extra range
    Physical OIS button, advantage for tripod use

    I had one (I've gave it to my soon when I start using mostly prime lenses).
    As far as I know there is some sample variation, but I've got lucky to have a good sample of that lens. Mine was perfectly fine. A touch soft from 150 to 200 mm as the other said, but still usable.
    I also have a Raynox 250 and tried it with that lens. It works good at the tele side of the zoom with the Raynox. I think you'll like it. I don't have any photo published to show you but I liked the detail and been able to get really close to tiny subjects.

    I kept my Lumix 45-200 even after I bought the 100-300. The 45-200 is a very decent, all-round telephoto lens. And I like how it still has the OIS switch on the outside, just like the Panasonic 14-45 and the 100-300.

    Bought a used 45-200 last year for less than $190. A great lens at that price. I use it w. a G6 for motor sports and wildlife. P1080087.JPG

    It was one of the first lenses I got, somehow picking it up for $99 new several years ago. It's okay, though I'll probably end up upgrading my telephoto abilities at some point.

    I have noticed what other people have noticed that are calling it soft. I think I finally figured out that it's at its worst when trying to focus on something in the far distance instead of up close. Close or medium length it still looks very good to me.
