While I love my Oly glass, I am looking to expand my OIS lens collection. So after buying the 12-35mm f2.8 and pre-ordering the PL 100-400, my Piggy Bank has lost a lot of weight. Couple of days ago I saw a "like new" (which it was) Pany 35-100 f4-5.6 for $150 - it was silver which would match my Gx8's I thought. Well after some tests against my very sharp Oly 40-150 f4-5.6 I am sold on this little GEM. It also works well for 1080P using the software/OIS on the Gx8 for slow walking and for handheld static video with OIS and 4k.

I'll post some urban/video suff later, but you don't see much on this lens, but I am quite impressed with its quality. Indoor flash shots of the Cat and Grey Hound were amazingly sharp at 100% on my 2.5K screen. Anyone else loving this lens?

I'm a great proponent of this oft overlooked lens. It, paired with its P12-32 sibling makes up my standard kit for my Olympus PL7 for street/festival shooting.

Here's a good example of the 35-100 on the PL7 from last years fireworks display in Sarasota Florida. The image was taken from the top of the intercoastal bridge, across Sarasota Bay. the second image is a tight crop of the buildings in the lower left of the larger image. The distance to those buildings is over 1000 yards, across water, on a humid night. Shot at F/9 about 1.6 sec. exposure. After I saw this image on my computer screen, I sold all my Canon DSLR gear.

Pretty much every review (both user and professional) have given that lens high marks. I have a deeper and deeper appreciation for small and light. I have the Oly 40-150 and have thought this is somewhat redundant, but for $150... I think it gets lost in the mass of lenses in that range. Lots of larger, slow aperture, less expensive, lenses covering that focal length range. And lots of folks own at least one of them already. And then you have the f/2.8 lenses that will have more appeal for a lot of folks.

I already had the very nice, and cheap, Panasonic 45-150mm, but I picked this one up for its small size.

Doing some not-very-technical quick tests, I couldn't tell enough of a difference in image quality to care about, but the 35-45 range is more useful to me than the 100-150mm, and the tiny size seals the deal. Sure, the f2.8 would be sweet, but it's not in the cards at the moment.

I bought one recently and I am seriously impressed with it too, it's very small and handy plus it gives a nice sharp image.
The relative slowness does not really bother me too much, particularly with stabilization, and along with the equally decent 12-32 it makes a decent set to use with my G6.

I got this and the 12-32, have not put it through the wringer yet, but seeing this tread and other recommendations, I think I did the right thing. Primary purposes is dipping my toes in the M43 family and a lightweight travel/hiking/other kit. :)

I'm meeting someone to sell my 35-100 today...you guys are making me reconsider!!

But I will be buying a 45-175mm to replace it. Rarely do I need a telephoto in compact situations, and I didn't end up using it as much as I thought when travelling...

I would not sell my 35-100 to buy a 45-175. I am actually considering selling my 45-175.

I thought about the 45-175, but the power zoom bit did nothing for me, plus I already had a 100-300 Lumix so the 35-100 fit in nicely with that , also its nice and small, so If I'm not using the 100-300, I can take the 35-100, 12-32 and body, more or less in my pockets. In the past I used the Lumix 14-45 and 45-200, I still technically have them, but my partner uses them now with her G1. After trying them out I much prefer the 35-100, 12-32 combination for both size and image considerations.

I'm coming from Pentax and the 'reverse' zoom rotation of the Olys is a pain. I'm doing just what you did, found a 35-100 deal (arrives Thursday) and I'm letting the 40-150 go. My old 135/3.5 can fill in at the long end and I prefer the tinier Lumix lenses for an ePM2. A 12-32 is probably in my future, though the 17+30 primes will do for now.

I'm switching over to Panny bodies to fully enjoy the pancakes. I think they are really awesome. All of them! Have the 20, 14, 12-32 soon. Have tried the 14-42PZ. And soon this 35-100! (to complement this with a supertele I am considering the 100-400 in the future, no pancake but ok size considering it's range).

Just read a review from a guy that seems to really like compact gear also. He writes (as I have read elsewhere) that is a must-have lens :) but it seems like you have to watch out to not get a lemon, see review. Anyway. Seems very good this.

Finally got mine after being a happy owner of the 12-32, the 35-100 is wonderful as well! My m4/3 kit now is GM1, 12-32, 35-100, p20, o45. Such a small and versatile kit. The only thing really missing is an ultrawide, but that's not terribly important to me, so I've debated between the 7.5fe and the bodycap 9mm.

Agree in everything. I have the P20 and O45 also. They are great. But I also have the O25, I use to chose between the P20 and O25 when going out, depending on how fast AF I want :) but now with Panny bodies I guess this will be a less issue.

Anyway. Got it today! What a tiny lens. It's really made for the GM-series cameras. Here on my GM1:

A few shots from today. I use the 12-32 and 35-100 on the EM5 II and it's a really light and effective kit. The 35-100 is just about the same size and weight as a prime. The 35-100 also has fairly nice bokeh.

Did you have a look at any of his photos from Afghanistan? They are quite beautiful. All in all, his blog is interesting to browse around. Thanks for sharing the link.

Thinking alot about order this lens. I found a place with some imported versions brand new for $175 shipped and it has me very tempted. It paired with the 12-32 would be a very good walk around kit and save my primes more for when I know I'm going to be shooting portraits and would fill out my kit until I can afford "pro" lenses.

I'm impressed with this lens. Mounted on my Panasonic GF7, it makes a small, light, easy to carry package.

Iv'e read some nice reviews of this lens and had a look at the mostly favourable images in the showcase and in this thread.
Thre was one reviewer however who indicated that the rendering of colour and contrast with this lens was a bit average.
I can maybe see it in a few images but was wondering if it's something that concerns regular users?
Or something that can be boosted in PP anyway?
Anway it's a very tempting little lens....I like the focal length....similar to my excellent Fuji 50-140mm f/2.8 but about 1/10 of the weight, size and price!
