Panasonic 15mm 1.7 vs Sigma 16mm 1.4

I take a horses for courses approach. For ultimate f-stop, the 16 is in my bag. There are times when that 2/3 stop difference from the 15 makes a difference.

Not to split hairs here, but it's 1/2 a stop difference.

When the shop assistant took the Sigma out of the box, the first thing that jumped out at me was the SIZE. I had looked up the official specs and images online, but seeing in real life just much this beast dwarfs the PL15 came as a minor shock!

I often try to draw the outline on a piece of paper ... helps to actually visualise it

I stand corrected, well actually I'm sitting.

That said, I do like the rendering of the 16 wide open, maybe it's the focal length but it seems more dimensional. And it appears to be sharper wide open than the 15, or at least it renders sharpness different from the 15.

It is huge though, no doubt about it.
