Is it me or is there just something about the images from the 100-300 that makes them just better?

I've gone through several of the telephoto zoom image threads and there is at least one image per page that makes me pause in this thread that I just didn't feel in the others. I'm just trying to figure out if it's the intended use of a super telephoto in the angle of view. Is it the angle and DOF compression? Is it just that much better a lens?

Just wondering. Ok really just trying to truly justify twice the price on my "hobby" equipment.

how can I view EXIF data of these images? I have had this lens for a short period of time and I am trying to get a good idea of where to start with it. Correct me if I am wrong but it seems as though this lens is best around f8.

Sometimes people strip out the EXIF data if you're finding that it isn't there. My primary storage format is PNG and then I'll make JPGs from that for the web so the EXIF just gets lost in the workflow.

The 100-300mm is sharpest at F8. Best is in the eye of the beholder ;)

While perhaps technically sharpest at f8, I find in practice I'm rarely above the max aperture, and somewhat rarely below ISO3200 (in any conditions other than full sun).

David Byrne [Talking Heads] performing at MOFO Tasmanian Bushfire benefit gig, Hobart, 21 January 2013; GH2 Lumix 100-300, f5.6 1/100s, ISO 800. Photo © Giles Hugo 2013.

This lens is my favourite for rock gigs — mega sharp wide open, light and fast to focus on the GH2 or OM-D.
