Well well well. Panny are smashing it out of the park. Along with the release of the two new full frame bodies, out pops a superfast zoom. He he he he. A 10-25 f/1.7 Wild. Go Pansonic

Now the question is, how much will it be?
Not cheap, that will be for sure. So much for m4/3 being forgotten & left to die. They went to quite a deal of trouble to assure their existing userbase, that development of m4/3 will continue at the same pace as the new system. Excellent.

Any links to any info? I googled it and didn’t find anything.

Edit: never mind, saw the other post with a link to the rumors site.

Holy crap indeed. That is an incredibly useful range. This plus a decent portrait prime would be pretty much a complete kit for me personally. Shame about the size (and inevitable cost) but still, major kudos to Panasonic for this one — this is not a typical “safe” lens release like everyone else seems to want to do.

That's a serious contender against the Tamron 14-20mm f/2 and Sigma 18-35mm I have as focal reduced lenses... It even goes up to 25mm and 10mm as a f/1.7.

Hopefully this makes Olympus stare at their offerings and maybe nudge along that 100-400 competitor lens.

I never thought they'd release such a lens! I've been asking for f/1.8 zooms from both Pana and Olympus but I never thought they'd go above f/2.0. Yes!! :yahoo:
Hope it sells well enough so we can finally get a 25-50mm or 25-75mm f/1.7 as well! :flypig:

IMO, this lens is a strong statement on Panasonic not giving up on m4/3 in favor of FF.

EDIT: I hope it costs less than 2000$...

This reminds me a bit of the
Is this their answer to everybody speedboosting Sigma 18-35s?
That’s a good theory. In fact, they may be promoting this as a video lens more than anything. Wide, fast, constant aperture zooms are incredibly useful for video and sorely lacking. Maybe it’ll even have a de-clicked aperture ring ;)

The lens is going to be heinously expensive. The 8-18 f/2.8-4 is $1100. The Oly 7-14 f/2.8 is $1,300. If I were a betting man, I'd say that this lens is going to be $1,500+ easy.

Panasonic has invested heavily in M43 over the years, for the time being, and maybe long term, they are hesitant to throw it all away.

Struggling to think of any larger-format lens that comes close to this range + aperture combo, on its native system (i.e. — not speedboosted to a smaller mount). Anyone?

There’s the Tamron & Pentax 15-30mm f/2.8, but those are for FF, so a significantly wider range. If mounted on APS-C it would be equivalent, but slower. That lens is around $1300.
