I started this long term project in 2010. The aim was to capture candid images of ordinary people going about their daily business.

Largely I concentrate on shooting images in three northern cities (Sheffield, Leeds and Bradford) which are all less than an hour's train ride from my home in rural West Yorkshire although some images are from further afield.

Initially, I used a DSLR and a mixture of prime and "standard" zoom lenses, but last summer I started thinking seriously about investing in a CSC and after a great deal of thought settled on a:43: system.

This set of images is from my first shoot with :43: in Sheffield in December, so I was still learning about the camera and its capabilities.

As this is part of a long term project, I'd really value comments and criticism of the images - it will help me thin the ever growing collection of images out.

Thanks for taking the time to look and comment.

I plan to continue posting images to this thread as the project evolves.

G'day Peter, thanks for sharing your project with us. The image that strikes me the most is 'No. 4 Express Reader' this is so good it makes the others pale in comparison. The image is so well knitted together with composition, light and along with the character of the subject it makes for an A3+ picture imho.

Nice images. For me Number 4 stands apart from the others, I also like 2 (I like the lines of the paving stones and shadow). Thanks for sharing these and good luck.

I couldn't resist that newspaper seller! - Just managed to grab the one shot as she spotted me, I think. I was tempted to crop the top of the image but decided to leave the "No smoking" sign in, because she was!

I'm always attracted to the idea of a smaller figure in its surroundings and of course here the low winter sunlight helped quite a bit.

Hah, I recognise the woman selling the Star... I guess she's in front of the entrance to Orchard Square at the top of Fargate?

    Nice photos!

Thanks for the feedback - The shot of the guy reading the paper is my favourite of the set, too.

I'll add a few more to this thread in the next few days.

All of the shots you posted here are well done - but for me, the one that appears to have the most thought put into it - best composition, story and may well have taken the most patience is . . .

. . . #008: Passing Strangers. Not just that there are only 2 people passing each other at the right moment, but the mimicking of the hands on the rail and the diagonal line that produces in the outreached arms - as well the framing of nice lines for the escalator.

Thanks, Robert. You're right in what you say. I've had a couple of attempts at getting a decent image from this location prior to this shoot. On this occasion, I shot, more than a dozen images before the right combination of figures arrived. I then took a few more, but this was the best of the bunch.
