I'd be sad to see this happen, but if it is going to, then I will keep an open mind and see how it goes. This is the only forum I frequent because of its focus. While I don't begrudge other formats, I'm not personally interested in them. I do echo a lot of the concerns that have already been expressed, and I have to admit that even before this, I have been feeling less interested in the site these days due to some of the trends. Perhaps that's not so much about the site itself, but about a prevalence of perception in the broader community. I'm not sure if this merger will inject new life in µ4/3 discussion, or if the implementation could be such that we'll see no discernible change -- but I do fear there is at least the potential for this to hurt µ4/3 even more than it has been lately.

For a new name, I really like the Viewfinder suggestion (but I'd be surprised if it's available)... or I would favor leaving the name as-is, if that's still a serious option.

Amin, please don’t change mu-43, a dedicated forum for M43 is a necessary resource and as a source of advice and knowledge is peerless.
There are already posts and submissions from those who use other camera formats, including myself!
There is already a plethora of one size fits all forums around, absolutely no need for another.
Unless I’m uninformed, going by the number of unread topics I see on an almost daily basis compared to for instance Camaraderie the sister forum to me speaks volumes!
Specialisation to a degree that is already here is great. Please think long and hard before possibly ruining a super site.

I'll probably stick around if it changes, since the forum is fairly active, and still mostly friendly and courteous. DPR is often fairly toxic, and talkphotography is much quieter and a bit differently focused.

I wonder what it would cost to buy the domain "kodak.com"...?

I think there's so much picture traffic on this forum because of the size and portability of m4/3 cameras and lenses. I stopped using my previous system because I couldn't be arsed to drag it around. My m4/3 goes with me most days, I'm trying to think of a name that goes with that and would also attract membership.

43photo4all.whatever...

There are two main drivers for a potential merger if I understand correctly, costs and Amins time.

As others have pointed out, I came here specifically for m43 stuff. If I consider this forum within the broader context of the internet then it is definitely the go to place for m43. There are tons of multi brand/photo forums out there already.

I fear that merging forums and specifically changing the name will dilute the current m43 "brand" that's been established here. The risk is that we get "lost" in a sea of generic photo sites.

To address the two main challenges I think merging forums with less traffic in a discrete way is preferable. Focus on maintaining/building this forums focused identity and don't change the name. I don't mind other brands being merged here so long as it's something I have to go and look for and the focus remains m43 content. Amin would release valuable time and financial resources, we'd all maintain the site we know and love whilst also having the opportunity to explore other brands without having to leave this wonderful place.

Just my humble thoughts having read all 20 pages of this thread so far.

Someone brought to my attention that this site has a solution for people who want to see some sections but not others: Photrio.com Photography Forums

I think we could do something like that, but we'd need more checkboxes than they have, and top of the page space is at a premium.

Thank you Mike, you did a much better job saying what I tried to say, several post ago.

At first I must thank you Amin for your excellent work from which we all benefited.
To your proposal. I prefer site about m43 cameras but I understand your reasons for the change.
Many users here have already multiple format cameras so I don't think that this change means inevitable lower quality of discussions.
But if I can ask for something, I would appreciate if new forum retains structure of mu43 and it just adds other system as well. So there will be still those subforums (some of which could be just renamed)
Micro 4/3 News and Rumors
Micro 4/3 Cameras
Native Lenses (renamed to Micro 4/3 Native Lenses)
Adapted Lenses (=> Micro 4/3 Adapted Lenses)
Accessories (=> Micro 4/3 Accessories)
Native Lens Sample Image Showcase (=> M43 Native Lens Sample Image Showcase)
Adapted Lens Sample Image Showcase (=> M43 Adapted Lens Sample Image Showcase)
For new systems there would be just new subforum for example E-Mount Native Lenses etc.
Because there would be possibly too many subforums with so many systems maybe it would be probably even better to add big Micro 4/3 subforum with all above subforums + current
Images to Share and Video renamed to Micro 4/3 Images to Share and Micro 4/3 video.

Rest of subforums - Other Discussions, Site Info, Community, and Contests and
Marketplace are already almost platform independent so I don't see problems here.

As to the names, I like cameratalk, camelife, fotolife and I think that there are some "photoforum" sites available as well.
