The Jan 2013 issue of DCW has a coparison of 6 sLrs for low light shooting. Tough the OMD was ranked 3rd, it surpassed all for noise, dynamic range & color accuracy. Lost out for bit lower resolution & AF low light performance.

Still it really confirmed for me what a technical accomplishment Olympus has achieved.

The G5 came in 5th w/ poor noise & dynamic range. That was a surprise.

Worse than Nikon, comparable to Canon and Olympus. The deficit against Nikon comes from the pellicle mirror.

    What were they playing at?
Maybe they crippled it with the 12-50's crummy apertures.

My neightbour's D7000 is no better at low-light AF than this here e-pM1 with the 14-42R or the Sigma30mm.

I thought Pentax has APS-C locked down. There's such a cult following.

    Ok, just saw the issue...

IMAGE TEST VERDICT (rating out of 5 stars)
    Sony A77: *****
    Canon 60d: ****
    Olympus OM-D E-M5: **** (tie?)
    Nikon D7000: ***
    Panasonic G5: ***
    Pentax K30: **

Of note, in 'Raw Colour Error' test, OM-D scored first, G5 scored second, Pentax K30 is third and Sony comes in fourth with a rather sizeable colour errors.

OM-D also scores the highest under 'Raw Dynamic Range (after conversion to TIFF)'.

    60D was #2
Except for the G5 all the cameras were close on noise. Charts go up to 3200
A77 was mid pack for noise, G5 the worst.
K30 falls down at low light on AF, res & color.

After seeing the lagging performance of the G5 & K30, it clearly is not safe to assume being the same brand or having the same sensor means all the other guts are the same & the camera will have the same IQ or AF performance especially in low light.

How does the pelicle mirror affect noise? I had the a77 and NEX7 and I didn't see any significant noise differences at 1600. They were both quite noisy, compared to the EM5. At low ISO the a77 has ridiculous DR and detail. AF is really great. But it's definitely a low ISO camera.
