Is there a way to turn off the rear display but keep the VF permanently on? After messing around with the camera, I found a way to turn off the rear display completely, but the VF sensor still requires me to bring my face up to the camera to activate it.

When I am shooting quickly, I find the very slight lagtime for the sensor to be a little annoying. I was wondering if there was an option to keep the VF permanently on. Would I need to put some black electrical tape on the sensor or is there a prettier way of doing this?

Goto custom menu > J Built-in EVF > EVF Auto Switch and turn it off.

Then push the button on the side of the hump to get just the EVF on. That's what I did.

Faster way is to long press the button on the right of the EVF to change between live view and the SCP and the menu that danimal referred to appears right away, then you can press the button to change between screen and EVF.
