Why do they say to remove the battery from the charger as soon as it is done charging? Does something bad happen to the battery if left in the charger overnight?

My issue is my battery needs to be charged. I am going to bed in two to three hours and it may not finish before then. In order to have four hours to baby sit the charger I will have to get the battery in the charger as soon as I get home from work. Usually there are a few other more pressing things to deal with at that time. :-D

    Thanks for any insight.

Who says to remove the battery as soon as it's charged?

In my experience, the charger shuts off when the battery is charged.

There is a caution in the manual that says to unplug the charger when charging is complete.

It's probably just to cover their ass in case the auto-shut off doesn't auto-shut off.

    Yup: CTA instruction

I've left my batteries/charger run overnight all the time. No sweat!

I think too that it is just mentioned to save them when something really happens. When I cannot unplug it because charging through the night I allways check if the battery is hot when I unplug it which is a good indicator if it keeps charging the thing but my battery and the charger are always cold so I figure that the charger shuts-off. So no need to worry :)

Haha. I just realized that I haven't unplugged my charger since I bought my omd in December. Am I in trouble? :)

I too have had no problems leaving my batteries on charge for an extended period. I would not be so sanguine though with aftermarket chargers -- I don't trust them.

Never had one. I guess there might be reasons why they are cheap (cheaper)?

sometimes cheap li-ion chargers don't terminate properly or have a different charging algorithm

Well, you can all rest easy. Did an overnight charge last night and I, my battery and my home survived. :-D
