Items to sell/buy/trade: Olympus OM-System Zuiko Auto-Zoom 75-150 f4.0 with case

Prices: $25

Location: Near Charlotte, NC

Ships to: US

Description: I had the Pentax version of this lens back in my film days. Light, compact, easy handling, great image quality. From what I read, this was Olympus' first zoom lens, at least in the OM system. All of my descriptions of the Pentax apply to this beauty.

Easily 9+ cosmetic condition: Clean, no damage, sharp lettering. No dings or significant surface blemishes. Focusing and zoom action are both silky smooth. The diaphragm is dry and snappy. The front and rear elements are in great shape. There is some internal dust. As the images show, there is some haze on or between some internal elements. Just looking through the lens it is hardly noticeable; I only discovered it when I went to take images through it. The last image shows good clarity with a naked eye view through.

There's no strap for the case, but it is in nice shape, without crumbling of the liner or the foam. Includes OE Olympus rear cap and generic 49mm front cap.

Okay. Went out and tested the lens today, wanting to see what the impact of the haze might be. The camera was a Pen-F. Images were taken at 85mm and 150mm at both f4.0 and f8.0. The reference images were taken with a Super Takumar 150/4 and a Nikkor 85mm/1.8. A hood was used for all images. Program exposure, IS on. SOOC .JPGs, just resized to 900PX long dimension.

So, some loss of sharpness and saturation. If you look at the "Gift Shop" part of the sign, that sharpness can probably be improved, and saturation is easy to bring back in post.

I think some of the softness is that I missed focus some; maybe some camera movement.

Not too bad.

At f4.0, you can still see that the Nikon is sharper, but you also see that f4.0 is not the sweet spot for either lens.

So, in my observation, the haze does impact IQ, but not as severely as I expected, and 1) most of it can be corrected in post, and 2) if you're using it on film, I don't think the impact will be substantial at all.

The images at 150mm @ f4.0 were crap overall, probably mostly user error, so I'll spare you those.

HTH. Buy it, eh?
