A very friendly robin let me take its picture from quite close on my last walk. I'm quite happy with how this one turned out, and I'm impressed that the little Olympus managed to recover enough shadow detail to make the iris visible.

April 16 seems a mite late for this kind of foolishness...

Can I ask the wonderful community a question? How does Eye Tracking and Face Tracking work on Olympus E-M5 Mark III compared to E-M1 Mark III? I am contemplating upgrading my Little Oly (E-M5 Mark II) to Mark III as a compact solution for baby and kids/family pictures to be ready to use at a moment's notice (candids) and for my partner to use every day. I am looking for a solution that can be one-hand holdable/easy to use (I'm thinking of Panny Leica 15mm f 1.7 and Panny 12-32mm f 3.5-5.6).

I can't give an opinion on the 1iii because I've not owned or used one. But the 5iii is decent for normal paced face tracking. It needs a reasonable amount of the frame filled to detect a face, it's certainly not the miraculous dancing box that I've seen on Sony review videos , for instance. I also think that my G9 can find faces from a bit further out. I think eye tracking is a bit hit and miss, tbh, certainly with shallower dof lenses. I don't use it too often.

I'd be fairly confident that the 1iii and 1x will be superior. But the 5iii should be adequate for family stuff.

I cannot speak for the E-M1iii, as I've never owned one, but with the right lens, the E-M5iii will deliver. I've taken many quality indoor shots of the people with lenses like the 25mm 1.8 or 45mm 1.8. I can't really recall if it was the AI getting the focus, or just technique. If you're just starting out, you're more fortunate than me in that you have much better digital options than when mine were born. Even smartphones weren't much for good photos until my 3rd kid, let alone really great video.

You're rocking that long lens!

Yeah, I'm making a concerted effort to find it's versatility and how to "see" with it.

Then I'll go the other way and bolt the 8-18 to the 5iii for a while. I struggle to understand how best to use the sub-10mm focal lengths, lol.
