My first attempts at BIF photos. The keeper rate was extremely low due to my lack of experience but I hope to get more practice in once movement restrictions are eased.

Andrew, if this is the output from your first attempt at BIF, I'll be very excited to see what your photos are like when you're used to the equipment! This is amazing work; what are you using for PP? The ISO 2000 and 3200 images have no visible noise and the last picture with the sunlight through the pelican wings is mind blowing.

Hi Graham

Thank you for your kind words. However these are the only keepers from well over 1.5k images:) The fact that these are large birds made things a bit easier. I was actually surprised that using CAF+TR against a blue sky presented most difficulties.

That being said I have much to learn, especially good panning technique. Next time i will try using CAF without tracking to see if I get a better keeper rate.

I use Lightroom to process images, should probably learn how to use PhotoShop but I do not enjoy post processing so will stick to Lightroom for now.

I know that high ISO on M43 is a weakness but i find that using high ISO to raise shutter speed in good light is a non-issue. The noise reduction in LR is usually enough and I have DXO Prime noise removal if it is not.

Once again thank you very much, glad you enjoyed the photos

Cheers
Andrew

M1 mark2 dynamic range is worse than older 16mpix sensors, this means noise is also worse. Only software noise reduction is stronger.

Just open any raw file taken lowest ISO, disable all noise reduction and you will see how noisy are modern sensors.
Sorry, but that simply isn't the case. Every testing or review site I've ever read disagrees with you, as does my personal experience with my E-M1 MkI (16 MPx Panasonic sensor) and E-M1 MkII (20 MPx Sony sensor). The latter is observably better.

Could you please quote a source for your statement?

24 hours after upgrading from the m5.2 to the m1.2 and I'm absolutely blown away by the autofocus. Way better than the a7ii even, imo. Now I can't wait for that Oly 100-400 to drop!
