When Olympus released the M.Zuiko Digital ED 100-400mm F5.0 - 6.3 IS Lens, they also released the LH-76D lens hood for the lens but also made it compatible with the Olympus 40-150 Pro lens. It has been shared by many that the hood that comes with the 40-150 lens was inspired by a good idea and that is having a retractable hood that doesn't need to be reversed for storing the lens. BUT...it is just too fragile and will fail if you use it! I tried to be careful with mine, but sure enough, it fell apart and was not repairable. Until the 76D hood became available, I managed to get by with a Canon lens hood, but it was rather finicky when it came to attaching it to the 40-150 Pro lens.
A couple of months ago, I ordered the 76D hood and I'm so happy to have it. There's nothing fancy about it, but it just works the way a lens hood should. If you own the 40-150 Pro lens, do yourself a favor and purchase the 76D hood ($39) and store the retractable hood away until such a time you sell the 40-150 Pro lens. For those of you that tend to be frugal, let's hope that JJC or another company offers a more affordable alternative!
