"I happened to have mentioned something to the rep about having dropped my FL-50 some time ago (I got a used Metz 48 to replace it), and the rep. said that the FL-36R and FL-50R were no longer in production."

Quite possible. They've been in production forever (well, if you consider the pre-R versions). I had an FL-36 back in... 2002/3 with an Oly E-20!

They are likely being replaced with the FL-300R (weaker than the FL-36R, and perhaps more like a tiltable FL-20) and 600R.

It wouldn't surprise me either. I would be surprised though if the 600r were replacing the 50r, as it looks more like an update to the 36r. I would more expect a 50r replacement that is weather sealed given the sealing of the e-m5.

It would make sense, although unfortunately the 600R is considerably weaker than the 50R.
