Can anyone tell me why the Amazon US EM1 IS @$1399 (£900) and the Amazon sister price in the uk is tickling 2 grand?

I believe the body price here in the UK is around £1299.99. The price you are quoting includes the 12-40 M.Zuiko lens. Still more expensive, but it was ever thus

The price difference is nearly the price of the airfare to go and collect one from the US

ahh ok, thanks man. Still a few hundred difference though :(

I've been using the 50 - 200mm on the em5 with such great and very very sharp results. Will be great to have it focus faster with the joint AF on the latest model, shame the bokeh isn't the best on that lens as it covers a great range.

I'm in the US atm so if I can buy two EM1's then sell the em5 and other em1 in the UK then I'd only pay few hundred for the new one. Score!

I had to look up Merseyside, although given the question I figured it wasn't in New Jersey. Y'all need to make a pilgrimage to B&H.

I think I've pointed out about 5 million times that US prices are without tax, and with a 12 month guarantee. Add in VAT and the cost of a second year's guarantee to your 900 before you compare ... sigh ...

Sorry, I must've missed those 5million posts... Wil keep an eye out in the future.

£1299.99 compared to the US price is still steep with all things considered.

    Cheers

And has been explained just as often, adding in tax and additional warranty, the difference is still huge. Even in high-priced California, that'd be $1600 vs. $2050, or 30% more.

Or to put it another way, you can get a Nikon D600 in the UK for the price of an E-M1. In the US, E-M1 is 25% less expensive.

In my experience there is no free two year guarantee in the UK only 12 months, unless you buy at John Lewis which is usually more expensive than the other retailers.

In the EU there is a minimum 2 year guarantee (one of the benefits!). UK prices tend to be higher, since the exchange rate risk with the Pound is deemed to be higher than with the Euro; again, easily explained by a glance at the historical trends.

Tax is a reason why people buy online to avoid paying sales tax. A big reason why people who live outside NY buy from B&H and why people buy from Amazon in places where they don't have a distribution center.
