Olympus/E-M5, when does auto noise reduction kick in?

I read in the manual that noise reduction only happens for long exposures if set to AUTO. Does anyone know exactly when it triggers? The black screen has been bothering me more and more lately...

Whenever you get the black screen doing longer exposures, it's working.

With other E's I think it was 1 or 2 seconds and longer. Some people say 4 seconds, some say 8 seconds...so there's no real answer., especially since Olympus doesn't specify in the manual.

4 seconds and longer is where it kicks in.

It seems some testing is in order... I am pretty sure the other day on the E-M5 it kicked in with some only slightly long exposure (1/25 or so), hence the annoying feeling of getting "blocked" with the black screen. Unless something else is affecting the auto NR triggering. I'll do some simple tests to see if the NR triggers only base on exposure speed.
