Showcase Olympus 75-300 f/4.8-6.7 II

I had the Panosonic 100-300 ii.....which I returned and got the 75-300ii as I prefer the wider focal length. I think image wise they are identical...the olympus is lighter in weight.

Love the mood in this.

I made two dozen shots, this is the one I liked most with the composition of the trees and clouds of fog. The color of the moon was really glowing.

Well I have some practicing to do to get anywhere close to your results with my 75-300II. Do you use a lens hood with your lens?

@RBA62 Always use lens hoods on all my lenses but never use filters. I can hand hold down to 1/30sec for birds but have to wait for them to be perfectly still. The lock was stationary ? You'll get there. I had trouble when I switched to this lighter lens from a Canon 100-400mkll. I seem to hold heavier lenses better.

A grabbed shot with no time to change iso as I knew he would take off as soon as he saw me coming onto the pergola. A rare visitor to my garden 1hr ago. Not brilliant but not bad for 1/25sec

@Walter Thanks Walter. I shoot RAW and always set sharpening to zero in ACR then import into adobe CS6 and raise smart sharpen to a level where noise/artifacts are minimal. I find the automatic sharpening in ACR adds too much artifacts when exported which then doesn't allow for the use of smart sharpen. Hope that's clear enough?

My rifle coach told me "weight is your friend."
And I found it true for both target rifle AND long lens photography.
It is a LOT easier to hold a heavier camera/lens kit steady than a light kit. While my body is not worn out, the heavier kit is easier to shoot. The light kit does not have the weight, to dampen my body motion, and I have to rely more on Image Stabilization technology.

However, shooting fast action is a different story. I cannot use the same stance as long range photography. So, the weight then becomes hard on my muscles, and they tire faster.
