How much do you need to stop the OM 50/1.4 down to get out of the glow/softness of 1.4?
Depends on the version I think. Older single coated version are worse than newer MC versions and the latest version with s.n. > 1.1 mil are reportedly better. I have both the MC and later 1.1m s.n. version. They are both slightly glowy wide open but the later version is better. Stopping down to f/2 helps quite a bit. I haven't done any real side by side comparison but the 1.1m version is better at wider apertures. Once you get to f/4, they're all pretty much the same I think.

Below are 1600x1600 center crops at f/1.4-f/4. The glow is completely gone by f/2.8 to my eye. I think this can be considered a "worst case scenario" since this is not one of the MC copies (the glass is in good condition, though). I do have a late copy of the 50/1.8, and in terms of aberrations it's a little better wide open than this one at f/2 under unfavorable lighting, pretty similar under less challenging conditions.

Using this lens with a Viltrox EF-M2 speed booster to get a 35mm f/1.0.

Wow, nobodies posted anything from this lens in a long while...
I have a Bav Eyes speedbooster on mine, effectively making it a 35mm f1.0. The speedbooster definitely ruins close focusing ability, but I suppose makes up for it in that great bokeh.
Decided to snap a few pics while listening to music tonight. SOOC jpgs from my Pen F.

I love that top shot MM and it made me yearn to get some vinyl out and have a long session.
Unfortunately, I sold the lot a couple of years ago due to deafness!

As an aside, my audiologist programmed in a music setting to my new aids yesterday.
I'm hoping that I can maybe listen to the few CD's I kept and actually recognise the music.

Enjoy whatever you've got and......
look after your lugs. :whistling:

Sorry to hear about your lugs, Brian. :(. Mis-spent youth or a lifetime as a tank-driver?
Industrial damage thanks to BT supplying us with equipment way over recommended guidelines.
Listening to music was always my main hobby until I could no longer identify what I was listening to.
That's the main reason I've got back into photography, while I've still got my eyesight.
I joined a camera club but my deafness prevented me from partaking in discussions etc.
Thankfully, although going solo, I've thoroughly enjoyed the sociability of this site since discovering it earlier in the year.
So thanks to all on here,
and apologies for the digression on this thread.

Another evening of listen to some music and playing with this lens/speed booster combo. Add a monochrome setting to this depth of field and everything in your living room all of a sudden looks so artsy and interesting!

And vertical images from an adapted lens, so it’ll just post sideways...
