it really depends on the shipping and customs duty to see whetehr it is worth it.

has anyone had to pay duty on a lens?

if so, what was the percent of price?

    A website said 2.3%

I looked this morning. The black version is an option too.

As far as I can tell, black or sliver, is available for

    281
+ 15 shipping to USA (looks like shipping is actually free up to 5000Y so this should be $0)
    + 5% fee for international orders (i.e. $14)

+ pay customs fee (whatever that is, maybe this can be skipped)

Looks like total price is $295 + whatever customs fee pops up (Black or silver)

A great deal with some international uncertainty....

Edit... shipping looks like it is free

I'm not familiar with Rakuten. How stable are their prices -- do they tend to fluctuate a lot? aka, do I need to decide now?

I dunno if it will fluctuate but just to let you know that's normal pricing here... I can get the 45mm f/1.8 on Amazon.jp or any store here for around $250.

That begs the question: What are the Japanese Ebay equivalents? I can only imagine used prices considering the actual selling price for a new 45mm.

We can only check yahoo auctions here for used stuff and currently there's no used 45mm f/1.8 listed there.

Used prices for mint conditions here is around $180-$220 when I checked at the local shop a week ago. currently this is their price on used stuff (中古) Mapcamera Oly 45mm f/1.8

Also bear in mind that the yen to dollar exchange rate now is really low that's why it became very cheap for you guys
