The Olympus 45mm f/1.8 portrait lens is now available for pre-order at B&H Photo.

B&H doesn't list a camera for pre-order unless they know they will have sufficient stock to fulfill the orders quickly, and they don't charge until they ship. I've been waiting for this lens for a long time now and just placed my pre-order :2thumbs:.

Purchased the E-P3/ 17mm kit with one of the mu-43 banner links last night. Hope that gave this forum proper credit. If not, let me know who I need to email. Thanks Amin!

I'm very tempted! Can't decide between this and the 25mm 1.4?

I just preordered the 25 figuring I can use my adapted Nikon 50 for portraits before springing for the 45. Pretty sure it's inevitable, but I'm trying (trying!!!!) to avoid going on a lens binge.

Highly considering this lens, maybe you guys can save me some grief... Can anyone recommend this lens on a GH2 body? My concern is no ios on the Panasonic bodies and the fact that 99% of my shots are handheld. Am I better off with the PL25? Thanks in advance!

I don't think the PL 25mm is OIS either. I think 45mm-50mm is the safest you can handhold on a Panasonic body without having noticeable shakes. Plus if you're shooting with a G3 or GH2 you get the added advantage of having better high ISO which is actually better for subject movement. You should be fine!

Dan... don't worry about it... IS can be a nice and useful feature to have at times, but with good photographic technique (and ever improving higher-iso performance), one can do quite well without it. I don't view the absence of IS on the 12/2.0, 20/1.7, 25/1.4, PL 25, or 45/1.8 to be a concern at all.

I'm glad they changed up the design. Looks great, better than the older Oly m43 lenses. Is the body plastic or metal?
