Occasionally I just get the slightest feeling of guilt from spending so much on this lens...then it just does this, and all guilt disappears:

While some people do prefer the thin DOF, this photo is a perfect example why I shoot dogs with f/4 or lower. I can't stand dog photos where only the eyes are in focus - they just feel unnatural/weird.

Thanks for the input! :D

If everyone liked the same, it would be a dull world I suppose. Personally, I like the eyes to be sharp, it draws the viewer into the picture in a circular fashion - in the same way a good painting takes the eye on a journey. But hey, 'one man's meat' etc. :)

that's the problem with these lenses, one eye is out of focus when wide open :) also, don't take it the wrong way, but that level of sharpness and contrast on skin is not very attractive IMHO. shows off the lens capability nicely though.
A whole eye in focus, phhfft! Shallow DOF is when the you can barely get a complete eyelash sharp!

I do recognize that everyone has their own taste and I'm sorry that I picked your photo as an example to bitch about too shallow DOF dog portraits. :drinks::biggrin:

Shot some engagement photos for friends of mine the other evening. While most of the shots were taken with the 25 PRO, there were a few that I shot with the 45 PRO as well. This is one of the images I liked in particular.

Shot wide open at f/1.2 on an E-M1 II, with an eVolv 200 lighting the subjects.

She's growin up right before our eyes. Layered a low opacity pinkish texture in the background and erased it over her face and shirt. Decreased clarity overall on a duplicate original layer, then erased it over eyes, eyebrows and mouth to keep them sharp and to make her baby skin a little softer :D

Oh and I dodged shadows and midtones in the whites of her eyes.
