My copy is about to arrive tomorrow or the day after that, actually I saw a few even earlier buyers on the internet, and based on the reviews I think I'm going to love this lens a lot. Sadly this may mean that I will sell the Sigma 60 and Oly 40-150 f/4-5.6 as they are not necessarily needed any more. I'm going to upload some samples asap after I get my hands on it, please share yours here too.

Now it's arrived, let's get to the test.

I don't think these photos are the perfect examples showing the sharpness of the lens because of the very thin DOF that I have got with aperture priority used and set to 2.8, and the fact that the subject actually moved, even a little bit. And these photos are edited with RAW from my G5 the way I would always do with LR's default sharpening, weather is hazy, I tried to do the best. AF is amazing.

Who did you order it from? Olympus is only shipping my copy in about 2 week's time.

He/she is in China :)

This lens is already being shipped?! Damn! I preodered.

well, it seems I need to wait till tomorrow. as I stated in the other thread, this is a copy that's not supposed to be sold, it comes from an insider without box or serial number. I know I should wait till official shipping but I can't.

You have made a believer of me. Wonderful shots.

still trying to find out how I'm going to produce better images with this than using the already very good original 40-150. at this moment I have no idea:eek:, which brings up another question, do I sell the 4.0-5.6 version?

After experimenting with the 40-150R, macro dioptres, and the TCON-17 recently, I would very likely replace the lot with the 40-150 f/2.8 and MC-14 if I was serious about telephoto work. The main problems I've had with the 40-150R and TCON have been lack of light at f/5.6, reduced sharpness and noticeable C/A, difficulty with camera shake at super telephoto (510mm equivalent) with a long front heavy lens combination and no tripod support. The f/2.8 lens does macro built in very well, will be much better IQ and faster with the dedicated teleconverter than the TCON, faster AF, excellent hood, has a tripod mount, and isn't actually that big. But that price tag (especially with the teleconverter)!

I have to agree to most of these but this lens, is big and heavy enough for me to have trouble using on EPL5, luckily I have a G5, and the lack of IS isn't an issue for me especially a heavy lens seems more steady against minor vibrations.

let's see how many people can actually use such lens on a Pen?

Great shots! I'd personally like to see some more moving subjects. This would be the one I'd replace my D700 and trusty sigma 70-200 2.8 I've had no issues with for a good while for sports and air shows but it gets heavy with the grip and a 1.4TC after a few hours..

if it's tracking af I probably am not able to get the best shots with my two bodies, I don't think a lens can change all those limitations with m43. that said, I still need more tests and I tend to believe this lens gets the best af currently available. I'll be shooting some sports event this Sunday (hopefully), so there's more to come.

another questions is, I really want to know just how good is the D700's tracking af? everybody keeps saying get a DSLR if you need that tracking af to work, what are the accuracy and keepers ratio like? for example with m43 gears there's no way for me to capture the face in focus if my puppy's running towards me and that's the thing I want to be able to do, the tracking af (or whatever it is) is always steps behind.

C-AF is fantastic; most of my recent stuff has been for my son's football team, and is only on a closed site called pitchero, I did a horse racing event for a friend, this time using my 24-70 (http://www.yourworldinpictures.co.uk/MacmillanRide14.html), but I'd say where it comes into it's own is for panning. Panning inevitably results in a fair number of dropped shots but the C-AF isn't to blame there - it's my dodgy technique  plus a heavy non-IS lens!

I will await your sports pictures with interest. I may have a chance to take photos at the local park run tomorrow, so I might take the em1 for it's first outing..

thanks, great to know about Nikon, I'm looking forward to having DSLR level caf on m43 but who isn't? and your horse racing photos are really nice, it's probably getting cold in the UK too.

another one of those "static" subject, G5 ISO 12800 150mm f/2.8

when we talk about AF speed it seems there's never a lens that focuses fast enough, I've been trying with so many fine lenses of the system but not until today have I found the keepers can actually be so easy to get with a lens like this, just take a look at these images, when did shooting running puppy become this easy?

all wide open at f/2.8, I can't even get these with the 4.0-5.6 version despite for the larger DOF, and my 25 1.4 is definitely not comparable either. the caf still may not get you as satisfied as using a high end DSLR, but this was on just the G5, I'd be interested to know how it performs on most recent models.

not only puppy, portraits too.

the last one shows amazing sharpness, very close to that of the PL25 and Sigma 60 both at f/2.8
