I've been using this lens almost exclusively since I last posted about it, and have come to the conclusion that, bang-for-the-buck wise, it's the best lens I own.

Up to around 70mm, F/5.6 gives the best results and F/8 for all lengths thereafter. I try and zoom with my feet if a shot is going to be longer than about 110mm.

I'm REALLY interested now in the rumors, however shaky, about higher quality glass in this same focal length. For that matter, I'm also interested in the Oly 75mm/1.8 to complement this in the longest end.

Forget the UWA lenses, although they do have their place. I've taken far more high quality and commercially viable shots with this lens than any other one I've got, and that's only in a few months of using it.

Oh, and sorry, I've just been around a LOT of trees and fog lately.

I cannot recommend this lens highly enough in terms of value in what you pay.

Thanks tanngrisnir3-your stunning photos and write up have me very interested in this lens  I'm planning on picking one up when I get an E-PL5 before the end of the year. $100 is too good of a deal to pass up, will be handy to have a longer option in my kit since my longest zoom is only the 12-50 kit.

    Surely not.

So, you think I should try to rein back the zoom to 110 or less for sharper wide-open photos? I like wide-open.

Yes, for the most part, since going north of 110 tends to be a bit softer.

In addition, likely over 99% of what I shoot is on a tripod, so keep that in mind, as well.

I often square up the graphical information I find at places like slrgear.com with my real-world experience with the lens, and find this makes it easier to confirm what I'm seeing.

If you haven't seen it, check this out and play around w/it to find what your best settings might be, and take identical shoots at differing f/stops.

Really really nice. I too think the 40-150 is a terrific value lens and enjoy using it for landscapes. Your images tell me I have a LOT of work to do improving my photographic vision. Thanks for posting.
