Hi All, I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread to track the current clicking issue that is being described in https://www.mu-43.com/showthread.php?t=54605&page=6 thread. The purpose is for owners of the 17mm f1.8 lens to provide the following information:
Is your lens making the clicking noise as described in the above thread - Y/N
What is the serial of the lens - First 4 Digits should be cool..
What color is the lens -
    Purchase Date -
    Purchased w/ E-P5 or Standalone -

I encourage even those not experiencing the to add to the thread. It may help us track if it is a bad batch based on serial #. This is completely voluntary, but i think it would benefit those who are looking at getting this lens or are in the same boat with this clicking issue…

Admins - I hope this is okay to post this kind of thread… thx!

Why don't we just disclose the last few digits or the beginning few digits of the serial number? Any idea which series would indicate manufacturing information?

Just in case... Google crawls through this forum, you know.

    Clicking?: No
    Serial:
    Color: Silver
Purchase Date: 2013/11/26 (YYYY/MM/DD to avoid regional preference differences)
    Kit or Standalone: Standalone

If this is the aperture rattlesnaking issue, I've had it occur once on both my 17 1.8 and 45 1.8. Both seemed to occur randomly but corrected themselves after powering the camera off and back on. I bought both lenses in December.

I think the first 4 -5 letters/numbers should be fine. i think that might give enough info on which batch it came from.

I just noticed the clicking sound happening last night while recording video. It is quite audible and can be heard when I hold the camera an arm's length away and is really noticeable when playing back the videos. It does not happen when the manual focus ring is pulled back so it would lead me to believe it's making the noise during focusing. This is happening when used on both an Olympus PEN E-P5 and on a Panasonic Lumix GH3.

    Clicking - Yes
What is the serial of the lens - ABM2xxxxx
What color is the lens - Black
    Purchase Date - 2014/01/10 (January 10th, 2014)

I normally don't shoot video, but now when I did, I got this clicking sound and thought my imagination made it. But no, it seems to be real if you also have it.

I took a video of the noise that is occurring.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRbvylEl9sU&feature=youtu.be

I called up Olympus and told them about this and they said that something must be wrong and that I should send it in. They also said that this is not a known issue. It's going to suck to have to send in my lens since this is my most used lens. Maybe I'll go ahead and order the Olympus M.Zuiko 12-40mm f/2.8 Pro lens to take the place of this lens while it's being repaired.

Apparently, many others have posted videos too:

I returned to Olympus Repair in Canada and they pretty much told me to suck it up referring me to the manual, suggesting S-AF mode and an external mike. So much for MSC!
In spite of it I just love this lens. But will have to use the kit 14-42mm for video.
