@ijm5012, I really like the look of your photographs. What settings did you use for these?

Spent this past weekend in Chicago for a friend's wedding. Brought a bag full of gear (2 E-M1 II's, PL 8-18, 12-100, 17/1.2, 45/1.2, flashes).

I didn't use the PL 8-18 once, the 12-100 only came out of the bag for a few hours for a handful of shots, the 45/1.2 was used on the secondary camera during the rehearsal dinner for some photos, but by and large the most used lens was the 17/1.2. It's such a convenient focal length, and the lens is great on an E-M1 II handling-wise. Here are a few pics taken with the lens from this past weekend.

Thanks. They were edited in DXO PL, and the edits were pretty simple. Add some contrast & microcontrast, added an S-curve to boost the highlights and fade the blacks a bit, and that's pretty much it. I've been very happy with DXO PL as a LR alternative. It doesn't do everything (i.e. HDR and Pano-stitching), but for those activities I edit in DXO PL, and then send it over to LR6 for the blending/stitching before the final export.

The 17 Pro is also great at close focus. Close focus doesn't get a lot of press, so I thought I'd show some examples. I recently used it to try and capture some of the spring wildflower bloom. I like the wide angle, short DOF sometimes, because it adds context and subject isolation, so there's a more a sense of the place. Flip screens are also really useful!

Here's flower reaching towards the sun for some nice backlighting. F2.8 ended up being a good setting for being close to min focus distance and objects about 2 inches in diameter.

Similar scene from a higher vantage point at f2.8.

Below are two images of the same scene at f1.2 and f2.8 at near min focus distance to give a sense of the DOF control and rendering.

Stopping down to f11, reveals good sun stars and baby blue eyes. I had to edit out a purple blob for this shot, but can be avoided with small adjustments in camera position.

And the 17mm focal length is also useful for grabbing the larger scene. The Carrizo Plain in full bloom!

Great photos. Image 5 with the sunstar and flowers in foreground is stunningly good.

Decided to treat myself last week and got a new 17/1.2 for a trip to Seville. Think it's a keeper
