Next Stop Bremer Bay - {Day 08-08} by Andrew Priest, on Flickr

Next stop Bremer Bay. The dirt was about to come to an end for the day with bitumen to be my friend whilst battling into headwinds through to Bremer. There is always something every day it seems to take the edge of the enjoyment of riding. BTW that water bag was repositioned :)

Bremer North Exchange - {Day 08-09} by Andrew Priest, on Flickr

Connecting people across Australia, across the world. This tower, Bremer North very much reflects the technologies of the past with microwaves and repeating dishes. Interesting there is no obvious mobile phone transmitters on this tower.

Pallinup River - {Day 09-06} by Andrew Priest, on Flickr

The Pallinup at the point if flows under the South Coast Highway. It had been my intention to pull off here and head into the Pallinup Nature Reserve to camp for the night but as it was too early in the day so I continued south taking some kilometres off tomorrow's ride.

Normans Beach - {Day 11- 13} by Andrew Priest, on Flickr

My nemesis, Normans Beach. This was the one and only unrideable beach. Of course I dropped down on the beach near the eastern end so had a fair bit of slogging to do. However I was "recused". Note the house? Well the owner had seen me and dropped down to the beach on his quad bike to see what was happening. End result was a tow for about 500 to 800 metres along the beach. Mind you I then had to push out up off the beach via a muddy creek followed by a steep track. Not fun at all.

Royal George Hotel - Six Degrees by Andrew Priest, on Flickr

The front view of the Royal George Hotel building (currently Six Degrees) in Albany.

The Royal George Hotel despite being built in 1885 and being described in Wikipedia as:

“an example of Victorian Free Classical architecture and is part of a group of commercial buildings with an asymmetrical façade and inter-columnisation. The building has a painted rendered brick facade on the second and third storeys with painted brick below. The roof is concealed by a parapet wall with gables and classical decorative motifs. Street level windows are arched and a cantilevered box verandah provides some shade and cover.”

it does not appear to have state heritage protection, only appearing in the City of Albany municipal register.

Law Offices (fmr) - Australian Heritage Sites by Andrew Priest, on Flickr

“York House, a two storey Federation (c1890-c1915) with Victorian Regency style influences rendered masonry office building, has aesthetic, historic, representative, social and rarity cultural heritage significance for the following reasons: The place contributes strongly to the physical character of the Albany town centre, located near a prominent intersection and displays some fine aesthetic qualities typical of the Victorian Regency style; The place is an important component of the Stirling Terrace landscape and a goldrush example of commercial development in Albany; The place is closely associated with the commercial life of Albany and surrounding farm districts and; The place is a substantial goldrush building which contributes to the community's sense of place, having occupied its prominent corner site since 1894.” - The State Heritage Council of WA

York House is in fact 133-135 York Street, Albany but I have only photographed here 135 York Street.

Also what is interesting is the Google Street view from 2015 shows a verandah over the pavement and semi-enclosed outside dining area. All now gone.

Drew Robinson & Co (fmr), Stirling Tce, Albany, WA, Australia by Andrew Priest, on Flickr

Dylan's Restaurant is on a block of land that originally had two street frontages, Stirling Terrace and Frederick St. It is thought that the original owner was John McKail and Co, as indicated on the façade at that time. This was later covered up by the verandah.

Early photographs indicate that the building had some association with the merchant company Drew, Robinson & Co based on advertising for the company on the eastern side of the building.

A later 1890s photograph shows a sign for the Adelaide Steamship Company on the eastern face.

An even later photograph advertises Offerd's Engineering.

Underpass - (YBHT 03) by Andrew Priest, on Flickr

One of two expensive underpasses on the Yaberoo Budjara Heritage Trail. Not complaining as it made the ride that much more enjoyable and safer but was a surprising find given their costs versus the relatively low usage of the Trail.
