Just wanted to ask if anyone else is hearing a rubbing noise from the internal lens elements when power zooming with the Olympus 12-50mm? I thought the lens was supposed to be silent.

I do not remember hearing it when I first got the lens. Just wondering if it is normal or if I should be returning it?

Hi, my 12-50 is absolutely silent.

Mine only makes noise when zooming manually. Otherwise, it's absolutely silent also...

    Thanks for the replies!

I will return it and try another one.

Yeah, mine makes some noise, especially at the fast zooming speed.

I just got a 12-50mm and I am also finding it quite noisy when zooming. I was expecting it to be relatively quiet since it is obviously designed for video use.

I also note that it is quite 'tight' when I am mounting the lens on the camera. I really have to use quite firm pressure to twist it on. Is this normal for this lens?
(I was wondering if it maybe had something to do with the weather proofing)

Just got my 12-50 last month and it does make a very subtle moise when zooming electronically but it's so soft I never noticed it until this post and even then I have to put my ear close to the lens. I don't shoot video so I'm not sure if the video would pick this "whhrrr" up?

Thanks! It seems most people are reporting that their lens is silent or near silent.

I suspect I have a problem and will speak to the supplier.
