I have just received the Olympus 12-40 zoom, and all my filters are 58mm (smaller diameter lenses stepped-up). I would like to get a varaible ND to use with the 12-40 for video, but not sure if the 62mm filter will vignette at 12mm, or I should get a 67mm filter to be safe and step-up?

My current widest lens is the panasonic 14mm prime stepped up to 58mm filters, so I haven't experienced any vignetting.

    Anyone try this yet?

I've used the Tiffen VND filter on this lens with no vignetting problems. The Tiffen is purposely designed with a 10mm wider outer edge (i.e. it takes a 72mm lens cap) to avoid any problems.

I'm not sure if other filter manufacturers also do this.

Nikon 62mm CPL is like this.

Thanks. I know that the b+w vario also uses a larger outer ring as well as the tiffen.

I have the heliopan vario in 58mm which uses the same size outer ring and has an external ring for stacking or using a collapsible rubber hood. They also do offer a slim version without the threaded outer ring.

I might have to try the four of them. Thanks for the responses. Will report back!
