I am trying to decide between a Panasonic 12-35mm lens and an Oly 12mm lens.

I am only trying to compare the image quality at 12mm-14mm. The other Panasonic advantages are obvious but so is the price difference.

Has anyone tried them side by side?

If all you care about is 12mm, the iq of the Oly is modestly better. It's my favorite lens.

That being said, the Panny is fantastic, and has fa better iq from 13mm up.

I've heard they're both very similar IQ at 12mm, but obviously you get an extra stop of aperture with the Olympus. I tend to use my O12mm indoors at social gatherings a lot so that extra stop is worth it.

there's been a few threads where this has been discussed already. The general feel is the oly 12mm is slightly better in image quality, but the pana 12-35 is not far off. There seems to be some sample variation with the 12mm, and some feel the 12-35mm is equal or better. the 12-35mm can exhibit purple fringing in high contrast areas, but it can be fixed in LR if you shoot raw.

I chose 12mm over 12-35mm because of the slightly better IQ and the much compact size. Enjoy using 12mm.

They must generally be close, which surprises me. But I will tell you that for a while I had two of the 12-35/2.8 and two of the 12/2 and compared the four of them at 12/2.8 and both of the Panasonics were better than either of the Olympus lenses. I think I got sub-par Olys, but it could happen to you, too.

Any other requirements? IQ wise it'll be really hard to call a winner. Obviously 12/2 doesn't do 13-35mm focal lengths.
