Update Price now $599.99 down from $699.99 for today only!!! Thanks Olympus Customer service

Wow Great Deal $100 off now that they've just increased the list price today to $799.99.
  This lens has been on my wishlist and has always been listed at $699.99.
Does this mean I have to buy this lens today before it shoots up to $799.99 for the near future???
Or is this just on the getolympus.com site and retailers like B&H will still continue to charge $699.99?
    I call shenanigans.

This is how Canon and Nikon have been raising lens prices for years. They announce a $150 price increase with a $100 discount, or some such. Or, when they release mk ii versions, they bump up quite a bit (as much as $500 for some of their top lenses). Maybe Oly's trying to follow their lead?

I bought mine from Cameta as a refurb for $549.99, I think they still have them in stock.

I just sent them an email. I'll see what they say, if anything. I'm gonna buy this lens it's just a matter of do it today or have to pay $100 more next month? I've been holding off spending the $$$ because I just bought my OM-D kit and a couple lenses and filters already in the past 2 months.

True. I remember last summer that it dropped to $599 with $100 off, making the cameta refurb not so good at $549. While this zoom was also on my wish list. I bought neither.

When I noticed the listed price going up to $799 a few months later, I bought the refurb . Can't point to currency exchange rate, as there's been little change there. Amazon has a couple at $645 right now.

I really like my 9-18, but I think I only paid 469, it was an open box sale from Ritz I think. As much as I like it, 799 IS alot for this zoom. If I was looking at that today I would at least consider the 12mm or 7-14mm instead, although I might still get the 9-18. Being able to use filters is nice compared to the 7-14, and 9mm is wider than 12mm.

Thanks. Yeah at $799 the Pan 7-14 is looking more attractive for only $100 more, but unfortunately the design of that lens is a no go for me. I need to easily be able to mount a variety of filters and I really like the diminutive size of the Oly. I've already built up a kit of 52mm asst ND, Grads and Polarizers that I was planning of using with not only with the 9-18 but also fit my Pan 14-45 and Oly 12-50 too.

Odd. I didn't get the impression that the 9-18 was selling particularly well, and at $800 it looks like even less of a bargain against the wider, faster and sharper Panasonic 7-14/4 that goes for less than $100 more.

Wow..can't imagine that price sticking for long. I got mine for around 550 on sale. Maybe it's a good time to sell it. :)

I think you'll be happy with it. It's nice to be able to resurrect my Cokin A filter system from it's resting place on the shelf. And mine is certainly sharp enough that even if it was more expensive it would still be worth considering.
