Yeah, it does seem a bit pricey. I'll still want one if it's up to the optical quality of my 12-40, but I certainly won't be able to afford it unless it's a lot cheaper than this price.

This is a price that has been converted into USD. It is certainly going to be less than $1,799 in the real USD price.

Awesome. Honestly, the price seems like it might be a little high, but I wouldn't call it unreasonable for a lens that wide and that fast (assuming it meets Olympus usual optical standards).

Hmm...
Was hoping I could sell my ZD 7-14mm and get one of these (hoping this is lighter), but it may be too expensive. And the used ZD market will probably fall once this comes out.

Anyone know the weight of the new lens?

I'd suspect so. Look at what happened to 12-60/2.8-4.0 prices after the 12-40/2.8 came out. And the 12-40/2.8 isn't even a direct replacement.

Nope. I doubt Olympus knows either - so far they've only shown mockups.

I'm a big fan of UWA zooms and fast lenses (The Tokina 11-16 2.8 and later the Canon 16-35L II 2.8 lived on my cameras for years)...but I doubt I'd ever bother getting this lens at that price (and I'm sure it will be rather large/heavy by M4/3 standards).

If that price is true...I might buy back my old Olympus 7-14 f/4 or go with the panasonic. I was hoping for this to be in the $1000-1200 range. Damn.

I just wish they'd get on with it.

If you already have the ED 7-14mm f4, I don't really see the need to replace it with the 7-14mm f2.8.One stop with a super-wide angle lens isn't going to make a lot of difference.

This is basically the price of other ultra wide f/2.8 pro zooms.
Nikon 14-24 f/2.8 is $2000.
Canon 16-35 f/2.8 is $1700.
And their price were probably higher when they were just released.

As Olympus lenses are not known to be cheaper than their 24x36 equivalents, the price is not a suprise.
I think it was a little naive to hope a Oly 7-14 f/2.8 to be priced like the Panasonic 7-14 f/4.

Too expensive! Should be $1199 max. Anyway i do want to have a 14mm equivalent, but luckily there is a Samyang 10mm F2.8, get the EF version (not mft version) + speedbooster and you will have a nice 7mm F2 non fisheye extreme wideangle. Price about $650 together with the focal reducer, i bet it's not as sharp as the Olympus, but still a nice alternative.
