I noticed that the Moonflower on our deck had finally bloomed last night and took the opportunity to do an ad hoc comparison of my Oly 45mm f1.8 with the OM 85 f2 with Metabones. The latter combination yields a 60mm f1.4 equivalent. Set up was simple: fix ISO at 200, stand about 3' away, carefully focus on the center of the flower and take a series of photos - wide open, f2, f2.8 and f4. On the OM the actual aperture shown was f2, f2.8, f4, f5.6. Because I wanted to see rendering for a comparable angle of view, I backed up a about a foot for the Oly.

In each case the camera's automatic exposure time (using aperture priority) was the same, so I know the light gathering increase by the Metabones was 1 stop, i.e., shutter speed confirmed that I am comparing the same aperture equivalents.

I use Aperture for processing. Other than some auto curves, these are unadjusted. If there is interest, I can post all the originals, but I think you can see a lot just with these screen shots.

Rather than state my own impressions first, I'd like to hear what you think. What do you notice?

In each case the Oly is on the left.

Wide open (f1.8 and f1.4, resp.)

Love that 80 F2, had to let mine go, need to find another, and apparently a speed booster as well.

Nice comparison testing. OM 85mm f2 is one of the smallest 85mm lens... I tried on FF A7R, but I haven't used much. Usually Oly 45mm is used due to smaller package w/ gm1 & fast af... Here are 2 shots that I took, second has the sun ring due to older coating, maybe a shade would have minimized it:

I don't think the screenshots do the actual photos justice. Here are two on the OM 85 @ f2 or 2.8 (don't remember!)

Thanks for posting Tom. The OM looks slightly warmer, but in either case very good results.
