I have the hood for this lens and normally keep it on the lens. When the hood is reversed its hard to zoom by rotating the lens. I'm sure the lens is meant to be zoomed by rotating it, but I noticed that when I pulled the front of the lens ( by the reversed hood) that the lens extended. Is this hard on the lens? I don't want to do it all the time just when I'm in a hurry.

    Probably not a good idea.

I've seen several places list that lenses weren't designed to be zoomed with the hood on backwards. That is just for compacting for storage. You are suppose to remove the hood completely if you are not using it/want it out o the way.

If you continue like that and it breaks, let us know the mean time before failure, lol.

Similarly, there are a lot of camera bag buyers that want to know if a given bag has a quick-draw attribute. Like Jesse "Ansel" James.

Getting the shot in the nick of time is a reason to perpetually have the camera out and ready.
