i'm umming and erring on one of these..at the moment I have the p35-100 f2.8 and the O75-300ii which i'd have to sell to finance the 040-150 Pro so I'd obviously lose a lot of reach, even with the TC. But i'd have 1 lens instead of 2 and i only use the 75-300 2 or 3 times a year...

Get the 40-150 and 1.4x TC and sell both the 35-100 & 75-300; you will cover from short tele in nearly as wide as you currently have, plus the teleconverter gets you to over 8x magnification above normal. The 75-300 goes to 12x magnification but is much softer at the longer end than the 40-150, even with the TC. The 40-150 + TC is faster than your current long zoom, even at the short end of the range.

Way too big for my taste. I have the 35-100/2.8 and it's the limit of what I'd want to use for everyday shooting. If I were into sports or BIF then it would be perhaps a different story (but then I'd need the 300 f4 :().

That's why I posted, Paul. I was at drag racing on Saturday and 100mm ( or 200mm ) just wasn't long enough as the cars approached but I could go wider? If I'd gone with the 75-300, it would've been too long at the short end when the cars went passed

If you need this focal length then I doubt there's a better lens out there. A 135 equiv 80-300 f2.8 in something the size it is represents a pretty good option. I can see that u43 is a great platform for longer lenses - so long as the AF is good enough.

@damianmkv@damianmkv did you look at getting a 50-200? Since you have an E-M1, the AF works very well, it's no bigger than the 40-150 when stowed for travel, and it gives you the reach of the 40-150 PRO + TC without needing a TC (plus it works very well with the older 4/3's 1.4x TC, which I also own). There's also the cost difference, which is pretty significant IMO.

Just another suggestion from a fellow E-M1 user who has the 35-100 f/2.8 and the 50-200 + 1.4x TC.

I do like my Pro 40-150mm and 12-40mm. Surprisingly...the 40-150mm is on the E-M5 the majority of the time. Here are a couple of stacked images I posted in another thread. Chive Blossom 5626. Cut Flowers 6133a.

You will find the TC doesn't degrade the image much at all; I have a 15x20 print of a swan's head on the wall and it's very crisp and detailed.

Photo-Starling, your capture of the tree rat is very good! I do not have the 1.4 TC...hoping Olympus will come out with a 2 TC.

I don't want to pay for it either but it will enable me to obviously gain back some reach.

Lens arrived...makes the em1 a little front heavy but nothing terrible. Incredible quality from my quick test shots too :drinks:
