Very tough choice! I slightly prefer the second because the kitten is in focus along with the camera. I love the facial expression in the first and find myself wishing that the wonderful face was in focus as well as the camera. The eyes and the smile bring that photo to life.
  5. As a photograph, the kitten.

As an ad, the first one. ... it has a message "Look, this camera makes me happy". The later has no message.... even a bad one... "Camera is relegated to the pet". If ad and message is the intent of the first, then the person holding the camera probably should not be pushed outside the DOF. People want to relate to those in the ads... often (like fashion or consumer luxury) the person in the ad is more important than the product being sold. This is what drives ads to include famous well known people...

Number 1 for sure. It could have been on the pages of Popular Photography or any of the other 60's or 70's photo mags that I used to read cover to cover when younger. Right opposite the big Spiratone spread!

I'll pick #1 - happy kid using the camera - should sell a lot more cameras than an animal, however cute, lacking opposable thumbs, and wondering why they're there at all.

Intrigued by the paper thin DoF - is that typical for that lens at f/1.8?

I admit I'm kind of biased towards cats!
