OBX = Outer Banks of North Carolina, which are a series of barrier islands off the coast of the state in the USA.

I was going to call this thread "surfers" but that seemed too narrow a definition.
This will encompass anyone that rides the waves. :D

Spent a week in Kill Devil Hills this year vacationing with family. To say this place is a target rich environment is an understatement.

All images in this thread were shot with the Olympus OMD EM5 Mk II and Olympus 75-300/4.8-6.7

The majority of the surfer and paddleboarder shots were taken in electronic shutter mode, which allowed the EM5 Mk II to shoot at an decent 11fps. EXIF data for 99% of the images were 1/2000, f/4.8 - f/6.7 at ISO 200-400. I shot short little bursts to allow for the focusing to be more precise. I saw no issues with warping from the use of the electronic shutter.

The bright beach sunlight was ample for the 75-300mm lens. The EM5 Mk II was sufficient, although I learned early that the C-AF was still worthless, and shooting S-AF is still the way to go. The EM1 with the PDAF and firmware 3.0 is still the sports action kind in the Olympus lineup.

Looks crowded, and fun. Visited there once, loved it. Great pics.

Andrew,

Nice work. Were you in a boat or on the shoreline?

Shoreline with the EM5 Mk II and the Oly 75-300/4.8-6.7

Great shots and congrats on the feature. I wish I had a place to shoot surfing that was close.

Did you use a CP filter at all?
No CP filter. Almost SOOC JPGs. Just a little Lightroom adjustments here and there.

I am lucky enough to visit Maui 2 or 3 times a year (Partners father lives there:)).

Last year I got into trying to shoot surfers... I hate water with a passion !!!

These 2 threads cover my attempts, first with the E-M1 and 50-200 plus teleconvertor, and then with the 300 plus teleconvertor. I am off there in a couple of weeks

Lets go surfin'
