My first auction purchase on ebay, only arrived just as I was leaving the house to photograph this machinery with other lenses, pleased I waited for the postman, looking forward to putting this to further use.

A stray cat... among the first pic I took when I got myself an adapter for this beautiful 50mm f/1.8 pancake lens. This lens has been idling for ages... amazing that it's in superb working condition.

Very painterly characteristics, the rear waterplay and foreground dappled light together create this impressionistic illusion. Hard to do without forcing the dark tones or washing out the highlights.

I like unfocusing my eyes a bit when looking at it so the image becomes somewhat abstracted; the foregoing then really comes into play.

    Very nice Mr. Grebe.

    Mini Cooper -- E-PL1 with Nikon 50 1.8D

I hope this is in the right place. I took this today -- a mini Cooper in a color that I haven't seen. It was taken as a three shot bracketed exposure with my E-PL1 with a Nikon 50 1.8D. I mildly processed it in Photomatix from Lightroom.

Just wanted to share one my first 50mm f1.8 pics. Love the lens, so far. Great portraits and I've been getting some super crisp shots.

Posted this one before in the Adapted Lens Image thread, but I think it belongs here. Wideopen on a speedbooster. Amazing lens!

Some great shots in this thread, but can people please put which version they're using?

They're all good, but there's definitely differences between them - pre AI, AI long nose, E Series, AIS long nose, AIS pancake, AFD, AFS-G are the one's I've used/owned but this might not be exhaustive!

How do I determine this? My copy has this on the front: Nikon Nikkor 50mm 1:1.8 4319278

Probably the best Nikkor resource: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/nikkoresources/50mmnikkor/index6.htm

It sounds like yours is a Mk3 AI-S from that serial number. If it is, it will focus down to 0.6m rather than 0.45 of the Mk1 and have a plastic focus ring rather than the rubber type the Mk2 had. Besides not being quite as close focusing the Mk3 had a noticeably warmer less neutral colour transmission, although you'd probably need to shoot them side by side to see the difference. The multi-coatings on the later manual Nikkors are more resistant to flare too.

Thanks. Yes, it looks like I have the Mk3.
