This is a fat lens, but I like the way it renders images.

On µ4/3, it has the same field of view as a 210mm on a 35mm slide, so it feels like a pretty deep telephoto when hand-held.

This one was taken at around f/4, but you still see the limited depth of focus. The telephoto compression is pretty intense from this close.

The purple fringing on this one is pretty strong (see the black arm above the lamp). But the rendering of the lamp itself is quite nice. Again, the depth of field stays pretty shallow. (It might have been about f/2.8 by then, as it was closer to evening.)

Finally, this one is taken on a tripod, with the aperture closed down. (I wanted to try for the "stars".) Yes, it's a lens artifact, but I think it's pretty beautiful. I also like the way the sharp highlight stars contrast with the foggy background that's partially obscuring the church itself. This is a 3.2 second exposure, so I'm guessing it's about f/11 or even f/16.

The moon and the stars

The moon is setting and waning toward last week's New Moon. You can barely make out the earthlight.

The stars are the same lens artifacts as in the same image above.

The image is cropped heavily but no other post. That's the lens rendering that image.

I just picked up one of these as part of a package deal... now debating on selling it or not.

You are right... this lens is FAT. LOL

A great graphic reminder about lens design and signature. Those stars are a pretty intoxicating built-in "flaw". I really like it wide open. Thanks for sharing.
