Nik Software is having a 4th of July sale, which runs through Sunday, July 8 at midnight. Their Complete Collection Ultimate Edition is on sale for $150 off (now $349.95), while the Complete Collection for Lightroom/Aperture is now just $224.95 (savings of $75).

I'm a big fan of Nik products, especially Silver Efex 2 Pro, which I use for all my black and white, and Viveza 2, which makes it incredibly easy to do the kind of selective color and light adjustments I previously needed to do using layer masking and time-consuming selections in Photoshop. Dfine and Color Efex are also great products.

I am guessing that Nik Software is a plugin to lightroom?

Please excuse my ignorance but I only learned to use LR about a year and a half ago.
Even thos i been doing photography for years , I always been of the school of trying to get the photo right in camera, and until 4 years ago was a film and wet-lab guy. Came in to digital kicking and screaming

Not in Europe, it would seem - the Nik USA site won't let me enter my UK address. It would be fine if I lived in Vietnam, apparently.

Yeah, Nik has a full series of plugins for Lightroom, Aperture, and Photoshop. I believe the PS versions are different and maybe more expensive, but I don't think the function is all that different. The Aperture and LR versions are basically identical. I use Silver Efex Pro extensively for almost all of my B&W work and some of my muted color treatments as well. I also use Color Efex Pro and Viveza pretty often. I used to use Define a lot too, but I think the NR in current versions of LR may make that unnecessary.

Good stuff if you're not philosophically opposed to post processing.

Defiantly not philosophically opposed to post processing, just PP challenged
lol ... i was so good on the Dark Room but on the computer i get lost and its so easy to make mistakes , and most times corrections i try and make or things i do make it look worse
so apart from color saturation adjustment and exposure settings i don't do much

The UK Site doesn't even seem to list the Ultimate Edition

Just doing a quick calc its £226 for the Ultimate on the US website or £395 on the European site, even accounting for 20% VAT thats a helluva lot dearer....

That said the current sale on the Lightroom/Aperture edition stacks up at £144 v £197 so with VAT on top of the US price theres not a large difference.

But almost £200 more to buy the Photoshop kit isn't happening sadly.
