I am fairly new to photography and I was wondering if there is a way to know where the hyperfocal distance is given an aperture setting when using an EPL2? I am using a Panasonic H-2020 (20mm F1.7) lens.

Also, technically speaking, would I just have to lock focus on any object at this distance (and then frame the scene to how I would want it to look) to engage in hyperfocal focusing?

Thanks for any feedback or insights!

Yes: lock the focus at that distance. Great for stret, candids. Pity I just don't know how to link here to previous threads around this topic.

I've found this calculator to be useful.
    Online Depth of Field Calculator

For example, it shows the 20mm at f8 and focused at 10 feet will have everything from 5 to 109 feet in reasonable focus.

Isn't putting the lens in manual focus mode (at your desired distance) a handier way to hold focus? The half shutter press locks both exposure and focus unless you have programmed the FN or movie button to lock exposure. The latter can make for too much buttons if you are in a hurry.
