I have the older one, bought it last summer (the 30/2.8). It's a nice lens and sharp from 2.8 on up. I paid $199, which is a good deal. When it hit $99 a while back, that was an amazing deal.

What's the difference between this lens and the new ones?

cosmetics and build (metal as opposed to plastic) afaik. No changes to the optics.

I'm lookig out for the 60mm. Hopefully pricing on that one will be revealed soon.

Placing a pre-order with B&H for the 30mm. It should complete my prime collection of Pany 20/1.7 and 14/2.5. The 60mm is next in my sights.

I think the metal is just a shell on the outside; no change on the inside.

The 19 is only equivalent to a 38mm FOV, and not much of a wide angle.

    For a good, small walk around kit I use an E-PL5 with a 14/2.5 & 30/2.8.

If you want wide angle on a budget, you should be looking at the Panasonic 14mm f2.5. The 19mm is nice--I really do like it...great walk around lens--but it's not wide.

Yeah, the 19 is more of a normal lens than a wide angle. 38mm equivalent vs 28 for the Panasonic, or 34 for the Olympus. It's more of a cheaper, slower alternative to the Panasonic 20mm.

The 30mm does a nice job of filling a gap between the 25mm panny and the 45mm oly.

Depending on the price and quality, the 60mm should be a nice alternative to the 75mm.

I have been debating buying the 30 to fill the gap between my 17 and (soon to acquire 25 pana and 45 Oly. But I still haven't been convinced to buy it before the 25 or even at all

I had the 30, intended to fill the gap between 20 and 45. I found I never needed it. One or two steps forward or back, perhaps a little cropping. So I sold it and don't miss it. Very good lens, though.

I suppose the opposite would work too -- for people who don't have the 20 or the 45, the 30 could fill the role.
