  6. Blah....

    Most of the Leica shooters I correspond with are critical... underwhelmed.

  8. XE-1? Heck, the Fuji X20 is great fixed lens machine.

    Leica's market for awhile now has been rich people, photographic knowledge/skills optional. This camera further serves that niche market.

    If any camera currently available required some photographic knowledge/skill it would be any camera in the M series. You know the one without AF, zoom lenses or a full auto mode. In fact it's the Canikons that insist on a P mode on their flagship cameras.

    Certainly Leica is positioning itself as a luxury brand, as is the was for many Germany companies in the last decade . But since Leica have the largest growth of any camera manufacturer world wide I suspect it is working for them. This particular camera looks like a prestige item and overpriced. But we don't really know how good that slow lens is yet and one camera doesn't necessarily profile the entire range.

    Kind of. There still is that Leica name that I'd really like to possess. But I don't have a house to mortgage that I could afford one.

    We should open a Shelter for home less Leica users lol . Anyway camera is fine but its only the lens which is not making anysense to me. It should have been 2.8-3-5 . I think you will be better off buying XE1 or even a Leica XE2 .
    Cheers

    Well look at it like this, you can get a really nice Leica kit for cheaper than what a lot of folks purchase new cars (not houses) at :smile:

    Leica M=$7K (New)
    Summilux 24mm ƒ1.4=$6.5K (Used)
    Summarit 90mm ƒ2.5=$1.7K (Used)
    Summicron-M 35MM ƒ2.0=$2.8K (Used)
    Summilux 50mm ƒ1.4=$3.2K (Used)

    Total=$21200 :smile:

    This is a real (not rhetorical) question for the cognoscenti. In my experience, i.e., hearsay, Leica is known for their prime lenses, not zooms. I'm not saying they can't build a nice zoom, but will those zooms have the mystical (or mythical) Leica "pop"?
