Now I know what the people raving about the X100 are talking about. I only need to find a battery...

zinc air hearing aid batteries work pretty well and there is a fellow on eBay that sells a cool little battery adapter that the hearing aid battery fits into. I use one on my Hi-Matic 9

The battery only works the meter ... the shutter and aperture are mechanical ... go shoot, use the Sunny 16 - rule-o'-thumb, on a sunny day (deep shadows) set the aperture to f/16 and set the shutter at the reciprocal of the ASA/ISO. If the film's ASA is 200 then set the shutter at 1/200. Adjust the aperture according to shadow depth/detail.

    Aperture Lighting Conditions Shadow Detail

f/22 Snow/Sand Dark with sharp edges
    f/16 Sunny Distinct
f/11 Slight Overcast Soft around edges
    f/8 Overcast Barely visible
    f/5.6 Heavy Overcast No shadows
    f/4 Open Shade/Sunset No shadows
    Add One Stop Backlighting n/a

    Good Luck and Good Shooting,
    Gary

Actually, this gem is shutter priority. But your advice helps if they find "the old German one which should be somewhere. It was fully manual with a bunch of lenses, so difficult".

And, the battery works! First roll done..
